Due to our rapidly expanding Climate Resilience team, we are looking for an Associate Director “Climate Risk Insights and Awareness” in our Advisory Group “Climate Resilience & Maritime NL”. You will be closely working with the Associate Director “Climate Resilience Planning and Solutions”, both teams have a common basis of operation and a joint team approach. The Advisory Group is one of the largest integrated teams in the company, comprising of over 200 staff working in our global leading markets of Climate Resilience and Maritime.

Role Description Associate Director – Climate Risk Insights and Awareness

We are recruiting an associate director to lead and develop a team of around 15 project managers, consultants, and experts. Based in the Netherlands, this team provides services for our value proposition around “Climate Risk Insights and Awareness”. These include amongst others climate risk assessments, climate risk impact reporting, and climate risk forecasting. The team is pivotal to grow our services for our key clients like the financial institutions (IFIs, insurers), multinationals, developers and asset owners.

To achieve the ambitions set, the team requires an ambitious and talented leader who ensures we have the staff, the skills, the mindset, and the connections required to make our service offering a success. The associate director will have responsibility for both staff and projects. You will report to the Director Advisory Group and will be a member of the Advisory Group’s Management Team.

Primary tasks and responsibilities:

  • Overall leadership of your team including amongst others:
    • an inspiration to the team; to guide and take along the team to realize our ambitions for our value proposition around “Climate Risk Insights and Awareness”
    • monitoring performance and development of the team members
    • retention and recruitment – strong growth expected, balanced growth of a diverse team is a key aspect of the role
    • training and learning of staff
    • care for wellbeing of staff with ability to coach and mentor
  • Strategic leadership
    • implementation of our ambitious advisory group’s strategic plan, co-creator of our yearly business plans
    • accountable for specific strategic pillars/subjects of the advisory group strategy
    • connect to and align with internal stakeholders to develop the proposition of digital climate resilience consultancy
  • Operational leadership of your team, as part of the overall advisory group operations:
    • account management for key clients
    • ownership of proposals, also collaborating with the Climate Resilience market unit
    • ownership of project progress and results (through monitoring of project managers)
    • project controls and profitability (finance, utilization, EBITA margin, DSO, QHSE, client satisfaction) in your team
  • further development of existing services and promote new services, also in the digital domain
  • internal operations/business processes

Within the “Climate Resilience & Maritime NL” advisory group, our management team comprises of the director and 8 associate directors (growing towards 10 associate directors in 2023). The team sizes are approximately 25 colleagues, working in a joint market or from a joint expertise perspective, while we strongly stimulate cross pollination between the teams to allow us to work on large and integrated projects (as well as highly specialised niche projects). As the leader of the “Climate Risk Insights and Awareness” team you will be an important colleague in the advisory group’s management team, to secure the growth in the climate resilience global leading market.

We operate from the Netherlands, and the largest contingents of our staff are in our offices in Amersfoort, Rotterdam, and Nijmegen. As the team leader, you are expected to keep good connections with the team members in each of the offices.

What you bring

  • proven track record of good organizational skills and leading multidisciplinary teams
  • flexible and enthusiastic leader, with a supportive leadership style
  • excellent communication and team working skills
  • strong commercial skills for the private sector, with track record to venture into new business opportunities
  • strong project management skills, able to steer a large and broad project portfolio, managing risks and steering on project result
  • experience in the climate resilience field of expertise
  • preferably having an affinity with digital (consultancy) offering

We expect candidates to comply to the following minimum qualifications:

  • education: MSc or BSc degree, preferably in fields related to climate resilience from a water perspective
  • at least 10 years of relevant experience in managing projects and/or teams
  • fluent in Dutch and English, additional languages are a pre
